Termine generalmente usato per indicare il tagma che in alcuni Artropodi sostituisce il capo e il torace o, per estensione, derivato dalla fusione dei segmenti delle due regioni, come nei Crostacei e in alcuni Insetti (Maggenti, 2005).
Per quanto concerne i Ditteri, il termine è usato più o meno diffusamente per fare riferimento alla fusione dei due tagmi nelle larve dei Blephariceridae (Courtney et al., 2000) e nelle pupe di diverse famiglie (Cook, 1981; Oliver, 1981; Peters, 1981; Robinson & Vockeroth, 1981; Schlinger, 1981; Wagner, 1997; Sæther, 1997a, 1997b; Greathead & Evenhuis, 1997; Sæther et al., 2000) .
