M1+2
Nel sistema Comstock-Needham è il nome abbreviato della vena anteriore derivata dalla biforcazione della sezione basale della media (Comstock, 1918a). Come condizione primitiva, ricorrente nei Ditteri non appartenenti agli Schizofori, questa sezione si ramifica ulteriormente originando i rami M1 e M2 (Alexander & Byers, 1981; McAlpine, 1981; Steyskal & Knutson, 1981; Webb, 1981; Kessel, 1987; Skuhravá, 1997; Chandler, 1998; Chandler & Shatalkin, 1998; Krivosheina, 2000; Amorim & Rindal, 2007).
In assenza di ramificazioni di M, condizione tipica almeno degli Schizofori, in letteratura si usa spesso indicare la sezione terminale anche con la denominazione M1+2, in alternativa a M o a M1 (Cumming & Wood, 2009).
Per alcuni Nemestrinidae, infine, Teskey (1981) fa riferimento ad un ramo terminale M1+2 derivato dalla fusione di M1 e M2 nelle loro sezioni terminali.
